Giant Heart Sculpture proposed for the V&A Waterfront

Giant Heart Sculpture proposed for the V&A Waterfront

This week, James Fernie of Uthando (Love) South Africa, and driver of the Heart of Cape Town movement, along with team members, Roshana Naidoo and Bobbie Fitchen, met with V & A Waterfront Management to propose a giant heart sculpture in a prominent location at this popular tourist destination.

The heart sculpture, designed to captivate visitors at the V&A Waterfront, aims to be more than a tourist attraction; it is intended to carry an important message of peace, love and unity, fostering community engagement and educational opportunities whilst serving as an iconic new landmark.

The heart sculpture is envisioned as an interactive exhibit and a vibrant hub for promoting South African history and inspiring community stories. With dynamic lighting effects and interactive elements, the structure promises to be a visually stunning addition to the Waterfront, enhancing its appeal as a premier destination.

Strategically placing the heart sculpture at the V&A Waterfront aligns with Uthando’s mission to link tourism with community development. The high visibility of this location will attract both local and international tourists, drawing significant attention to Uthando’s broader goals.

Furthermore, the funds raised through this initiative will support the creation of a Peace Centre in Cape Town, envisioned as a hub for creativity, economic growth, and sustainability, empowering local communities with essential tools for greater social impact.

“The Heart Sculpture is more than just an art installation; it is a catalyst for change,” says James Fernie, of Uthando (Love) South Africa. “This project underscores our commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment, demonstrating that love and creativity can drive meaningful social transformation.”
