As part of our ongoing series of honouring #CommunityHeroes,
today we pay tribute to #Lovenaire Kevin Chaplin, founder of the SA Ubuntu Foundation, Managing Director of Amy Foundation, author of Can Do! Making the Impossible Possible! and Public Speaker.
He is a transformative leader and change-maker with a career dedicated to uplifting organisations and communities.
In 2005, Kevin founded the SA Ubuntu Foundation with a vision to empower communities. He then took over the Amy Biehl Foundation, transforming it into the thriving NPO it is today.
Kevin’s dedication to service has earned him significant recognition:
- The Knights Circle of Valour Award for Community Service and the Melvin Jones International Fellow Award, alongside figures like Raymond Ackerman and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
- He has raised over R30 million for charities over the past decade.
- Selected onto UCT’s Graduate School Distinguished Speakers Programme in 2007 and voted Top Guest Speaker at UCT in 2005.

The remarkable work of YISS-Youth Impact & Sustainable - a community-driven NPO based in Hanover Park, started by husband and wife team Roberto and Jesmina Stemmet, is highlighted in this short video clip.
The initiative is dedicated to empowering disadvantaged youth and families through skills training, mentorship, enterprise development and social upliftment programmes.
YISS provides practical training in areas such as hairdressing, hospitality, business skills, life skills, crime prevention and more—helping young people build confidence, find purpose, create income opportunities, and break the cycle of poverty, drugs and gangsterism.

The Heart of Cape Town is a Uthando (Love) South Africa initiative.
We all feel what other people are going through whether we are conscious of it or not.
At a deep level we are all affected by the horrifying and unimaginable tragedy of war, violence and division.
At a distance it appears there is not much that each of can do, but in truth each and everyone of us can act as a “Lighthouse of Love, Kindness and Peace”.
This state of being comes from our HEARTS.
We are all one.
We are all Brothers and Sisters.
With all of our differences, arguments, disagreements and battles we have forgotten that we are all one life together.
The Heart of Cape Town Documentary

The Heart of Cape Town, an initiative led by Uthando (Love) South Africa, passionately champions a profound message of Peace, Kindness and Love worldwide, whilst illuminating the truly inspiring and innovative work of South African community development projects and activists.
