As part of the Heart of Cape Town initiative, we are celebrating Nelson Mandela’s legacy through a 67-day event dedicated to unity, peace, and love.
The Bin Decorating Challenge
From Mandela Day on 18 July 2024 to the Spring Solstice on 22 September 2024, we invite you to join us in transforming Cape Town into a city-wide art gallery by decorating your litter bins with heart stickers.
Let’s aim to set an example of the city with the most decorated refuse bins, all whilst supporting local causes and promoting environmental sustainability.
How to Participate in the Bin Decorating Challenge
Step 1: Purchase Your Heart Sticker Packs
Start by purchasing heart sticker packs from your local The Secret Love Project vendor. Each pack contains three stickers and costs R20. Your purchase not only helps you participate in the challenge but also supports around 700 people who rely on this initiative for their income.
Step 2: Decorate Your Litter Bin
Get creative and decorate your litter bin with the heart stickers. You can use multiple packs to cover your bin in beautiful designs that express love, peace, and unity. Involve your family, friends, and neighbours to make it a fun community activity.
Don’t forget, there’s a challenge to discover the most creatively decorated bin!
Step 3: Share Your Creation
Share your decorated bin photos on social media using the hashtags #67DaysForMandela and #HeartOfCapeTown and #SecretLoveProject. Encourage others to participate and spread the word about this exciting challenge.
Step 4: Engage with the Heart of Cape Town Community
Follow the Heart of Cape Town campaign on social media to see other participants’ creations.

We encourage Civic and Resident Associations to participate by arranging local challenges in their area and posting results on social media.
Environmental Impact
We are also committed to promoting environmental sustainability.
Use the plastic wrappers from your heart sticker packs to create eco-bricks, which will be used in local construction projects.
