The Story of the Humble Heart is a deeply personal journey for me, (James Fernie), as I grapple with the violence and suffering witnessed in Cape Town and beyond. It all started with a profound experience hanging an illuminating blue heart, bought from a local wire crafter, in my garden.
This experience sparked a personal mission to spread joy and love through the Heart of Cape Town project, both locally and internationally.
I’m immensely grateful to the individuals who helped kickstart this initiative, which has gained significant traction since its launch in December 2023. Witnessing the hearts bring solace to communities, from local activists to prominent leaders, has been nothing short of transformative.
Events like the V-Day South Africa Rise for Freedom and Kaapse Klopse Competition have become platforms for healing and celebration, with the hearts symbolizing hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about the opportunity to expand our project globally, particularly through tourism trade shows, where we can propagate messages of peace and compassion to a wider audience.
As I reflect on the awards and recognition received, I’m filled with optimism for the future, envisioning the hearts, not just as symbols of goodwill, but as catalysts for job creation and community development initiatives.
In essence, this journey has reinforced my belief in the power of love to transcend violence and adversity, and I’m committed to growing and expanding this heartfelt mission.
